How to Get the Most Out of Your Follow-Up Appointments

Follow-up visits are where we fine-tune your healing plan, celebrate progress, and adjust course when needed. Because your time (and resources) are valuable, here are some gentle tips to help you get the most from each appointment—so we can keep your care focused, efficient, and effective.

1. Come ready to make decisions together

Your symptoms aren’t just a list of discomforts—they’re clues. Before your appointment, take a little time to reflect: What’s getting better? What’s getting worse? What might be driving these changes?
This way, when we meet, we can move past just cataloging symptoms and start using them to guide the next step in your protocol. Think of it as detective work we’re doing side by side.

2. Share your preferences openly

There are often several ways to approach treatment. If there’s a protocol or therapy you’re especially curious about, let us know right away. Being upfront about your preferences helps us tailor options that feel right for you—not just clinically, but personally.

3. Keep a simple timeline

A calendar, journal, or tracking app can be a game-changer. Note when you start or stop a medication or supplement, and how your key symptoms shift in response.
Many patients arrive with a timeline from their first appointment, but it’s just as valuable to keep updating it as we go. These notes often reveal patterns you might not notice day to day—and they help us make smarter adjustments together. (see our article How to Track Your Symptoms..)

4. Jot down your questions ahead of time

The night before your appointment, take a few minutes to write down your main questions or concerns. Adding them to your questionnaire helps make sure your priorities don’t get lost in the flow of conversation.

5. Keep your medication and supplement list current

Please list all of your current medications and supplements (with doses and start dates if possible). Even if nothing has changed, try to avoid writing “same as last time.” Many patients keep a running list on their computer that they simply update and paste into their questionnaire—an easy habit that saves time during your visit.

6. Record your appointment (audio only)

So much information gets shared in a short time. Feel free to make an audio recording on your phone (no video, please). Listening again later helps reinforce instructions and can ease the pressure of remembering every detail in the moment.

The Bigger Picture

These small steps aren’t about adding more homework—they’re about making sure your energy, your time, and your resources are used wisely. The more organized and clear you feel going into your appointment, the more we can focus together on what matters most: moving your healing forward.

Your story, your observations, and your questions are the heart of this process. Thank you for being an active partner in your care—we couldn’t do this without you.
